About g v o r a Ltd
My name is Ellen Gvora. I have been creator, maker and designer of clothing and accessories for over 30 years. I have a background in pattern design and drafting from Newbury College in Brookline, Massachusetts. A propensity to scavenge, procure fabrics, acquire once-loved items and adornments has fed my creative spirit. I tend to see an opportunity in a tossed off item and challenge myself to make something new.
My current collections include a line of women’s skirts incorporating Scottish Tartan Plaids and fine knits. These were inspired by trends on the runways and desire to utilize my stashed, fine fabrics. They are a fresh take on a classic look.
I am excited to introduce my new line of men’s cardigans made of fine wool jersey, silk, assorted knits and an endless reserve of retired men’s woolen suitings. These cardigans are a great alternative to the sport coat with a nod to the craft of a reuse of truly beautiful fibers. Every man loves a classic look with a twist.
I continue to make items from recycled T-shirts as private orders. These include tunics, skirts and accessories utilizing retired knits held most dear by my customer. I invite you to take a peek at my galleries for examples.
What year were you born? My collection of vintage kitchen calendar linens is now a line of satchel and totes. Each bag is made from an authentic linen calendar combined with current fabrics and fully lined. Delightful artwork and “years” of significance make these a very special item. Each is ample size for I-pads or books. Have your own linen from long ago? Custom orders welcome!
In addition to my fiber art, my attentions were drawn to vintage metals. Using now obsolete office supplies, such as index card file boxes and Check filing boxes, I have fashioned novel items for storage. Adorned with various metal motifs, a little creative use of Naugahyde, leather trim and upholstery studs make these a unique addition to home decor. Check out my WEST HARRIET Gallery.
